The Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, at the initiative of Bishop Georgije of Canada, launched its own magazine Istocnik in December 1987, named in honour of the Dabro-Bosanski Istocnik published in Sarajevo in the 19th century. Shortly thereafter, a publishing house of the same name (Istocnik Publishing) began operating. The logo of Istocnik was designed by Dusan "Bata" Bijelic, and Istocnik is also the name of the diocese's website, which has existed since 1998. Istocnik and the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada operated an independent stand at the Belgrade Book Fair from 2000 until 2013. The feast day of Istocnik is Easter Friday.
Magazine
Our magazine is primarily dedicated to Christian and theological topics, as well as literature, culture and life of Serbs in Canada. The magazine is published three times a year (for Pascha, the Transfiguration of our Lord, and for Christmas) in 5000 copies. For its "exceptional contribution to the development of culture in the Republic of Serbia and the all-Serbian cultural space", the magazine was awarded the Vuk Award in 2005. In addition to print, the magazine is also available in digital format.
Istocnik Publishing
Our publishing house has published several dozen books thus far. The topics of the publications include theology, worship, history, literature, poetry, children's literature, as well as commemorative and special editions. In addition to books, Istocnik Publishing also publishes bilingual pocket calendars every year. Istocnik Publishing was awarded the Rastko Petrovic Award for 2006.
