First Joint Slava of Newly United Circle of Serbian Sisters Celebrated at Saint Nicholas Cathedral Church in Hamilton

On Sunday, October 26, parishioners of the Saint Nicholas Cathedral Church in Hamilton gathered to celebrate the Slava (feast day) of Saint Petka – the first joint Slava of the newly united Saint Nicholas–Queen Mary Circle of Serbian Sisters – with a beautiful afternoon banquet.

A full hall of parishioners, along with this year's godmother, Ljubica Manojlovic, made the celebration truly special. We are pleased to share that long-time sister Nena Dabic has kindly stepped forward to be the godmother of the Slava for next year.

Parishioners had the opportunity to greet several distinguished guests, including Milka Culic, president of the Mala Gospojina Circle of Serbian Sisters at the Saint Nicholas Church on Barton Street, and Chris Trifunovic, president of the Circle of Serbian Sisters at the Ravna Gora Movement of Serbian Chetniks in Winona.

Also present was Ned Kuruc, Member of Parliament for the federal electoral district of Hamilton East–Stoney Creek, who sent kind words of recognition to the sisters – especially to the president of the Saint Nicholas–Queen Mary Circle of Serbian Sisters Sonja Hajdu for her invaluable contribution to this community.

The joyful sounds of the Niagara Falls Tamburica Orchestra filled the hall, creating a lively atmosphere that was enjoyed by all present.

The parish priest of West Hamilton, Fr. Dragomir Ninkovic, and the parish priest of East Hamilton, Fr. Djuro Samac, warmly thanked all the sisters who lovingly prepared the Slava meal, and the energetic members of the Nash Krst youth group who kindly served and stayed afterwards to help clean the church, as well as the dedicated members of the church choir who uplifted the audience with their beautiful singing during the Holy Liturgy and the Slava banquet. Their joyful spirit and teamwork are greatly appreciated. Finally, they sincerely thanked everyone who joined in the celebration of this first joint Slava with their presence – an unforgettable day that marks the beginning of many blessed years to come.
