Second Annual Orthodox Christian Week Celebrated in Ontario

On April 17, 2026, on the feast day of Bright Friday, a delegation of Orthodox clergy gathered for a ceremonial reception at the Ontario Legislative Assembly in Queen's Park to solemnly mark the second annual Orthodox Christian Week in the province of Ontario. The gathering was attended by representatives of numerous Orthodox Christian jurisdictions including the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada which was represented by His Eminence Archbishop of Toronto and Metropolitan of Canada Mitrofan, and diocesan deacon Petar Marjanovic. Other dignitaries included representatives of Serbian–Canadian cultural and social groups as well as the organizer of the reception MPP Tom Rakocevic.

According to an official statement, the purpose of this week-long celebration – which coincides with Bright Week and begins immediately after Pascha – is to “share awareness of the Orthodox faith and spread knowledge of the contributions its followers have made here in Ontario and around the world.”

The hosts of this year's event were the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Let us continue to greet each other from the bottom of our hearts and souls with the most joyful greeting: Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!
