Slava of Saint Sava Celebrated in Whitby
Yesterday, the Feast Day (Slava) of Saint Sava was solemnly celebrated at the Saint Arsenije Sremac Church in Whitby.
At the Holy Liturgy, which was officiated by the parish priest, Fr. Milos Puric, and the retired Fr. Milutin Veljko, the Slava kolach and Slava wheat were blessed. This was followed by the cutting of the Slava kolach. The godparents and hosts of this year's celebration were Milan Brkljac, teacher at the Serbian language school at the church, and his wife Natasa.
After the liturgy, the solemn Saint Sava Academy followed, in which children from the church school and parish presented themselves. After the academy, a Slava luncheon was served, prepared by the hardworking sisters from the Mala Gospojina Circle of Serbian Sisters.
All children who participated in the celebration of this wonderful holiday of our first archbishop received special packages as gifts. Having Saint Sava, the first Serbian enlightener, as patron is a great honour and a great blessing to new generations of Serbs.
The board of the Saint Arsenije Sremac Church and School Congregation thanks everyone for their support and love. May the prayers and the path of Saint Sava always lead us to peace, harmony and goodness. Amen.
